Exciting times in endodontics as new technologies and techniques are developed to make the procedure more predictable and profitable. Developments in Implant science may have challenged endodontic treatment especially the art and science of Endodontic Retreatment. But studies show the success rate of properly done re root canal therapy to be as high as initial root canal therapy.

This hands on workshop is targeted at all General Practitioners who provide root canal therapy and want to extend the type of endodontic treatment provided and take their endodontic skills to the next level.

The course is a mixture of lectures, clinical presentations and hands on sessions, which will give all delegates a chance to try out modern retreatment techniques using the latest technology. The hands on session will be undertaken using surgical microscopes allowing participants to see the dramatic improvement that this equipment brings.

An innovative model will be provided to each delegate to simulate the clinical scenario for retreatment. You will be able to practice removal of separated files, post removal and access cavity refinement using various ultrasonic tips using an operating microscope. You are also encouraged to bring 2 upper first molars with access cavity prepared and canals obturated.

The lecture will include:

Causes of Endodontic failure
Factors Influencing treatment Options
Locating canals
Gutta Percha Removal
Silver Point removal
Paste Removal
Post removal
Separated Instrument removal

Video/live demonstration of ultrasonic use in endodontics Case presentations

Hands on Sessions:

Access cavity refinement using ultrasonic tips
Gutta percha removal
Instrument retrieval from the tooth model using ultrasonic tips under magnification
Post removal using ultrasonic tips under magnification
Locating missed canals

OBJECTIVES:

After the seminar, the participants will:

1.
2.

Understand better the basic principles underlying re root canal treatment
Be better at assessment, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment planning in endodontic retreatment

After the hands on, the participants would have:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Practiced access cavity refinement using ultrasonic tips under magnification
Practiced removal of posts on the model provided using ultrasonics and magnification
Have learnt how to better use an operating microscope
Improved your skills in using ultrasonics in endodontics

Practiced removal of separated instruments on the model provided using ultrasonic tips under magnification
