Ove Peters

Professor and Director of Endodontic Research
University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry San Francisco


Dr. Peters received his degree in dentistry (Dr. med dent) from the University of Kiel,
Germany, in 1990. After two years in the Department of Neurophysiology at the
University of Kiel, he served as an Aassistant Professor of Prosthodontics at the
University of Heidelberg, Germany, from 1993 to 1996. Dr. Peters received post-
graduate endodontic training at the Zurich University Dental School from 1997 to 2001
and at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) from 2004 to 2006. He was an
Associate Professor and Head of the dividing his time between research, teaching CE
courses and participating in the faculty practice. Dr. Peters attended UCSF from 2001 to
2003 and received an MS certificate in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences. He also received a
Certificate in Endodontics from UCSF in 2006 and a California dental license in 2007 and
became board certified in endodontics in 2010.

Dr. Peters is currently Professor and Director of Endodontic Research in the Endodontic
Department of the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry at the University of the Pacific, San Francisco.

His main scientific interests are: the performance of nickel-titanium rotary root canal
instruments and the efficacy of antimicrobial regimes in root canal treatment. Recently he became involved in studies detailing events in the healing of periradicular lesions, including
the contribution of stem cells.Peters has published more than 70 papers in peer-reviewed
journals and has lectured both nationally and internationally. He has authored several
chapters in leading textbooks and serves on the review panel and editorial boards of
multiple dental journals.
